About Us:

Hi! my name is Russ Tanioka (tah-knee-oh-ka). I wish to welcome you and thank you for visiting with us.

I've been in the computer business for about 15 years now.  My specialty is customer support and fulfilling customers needs and computer related problems.. usually!  Yes sometimes, people like to vent and talk with me about their problems that may not even be related to computers.  I'm very happy to oblige and offer support in any way I can.

I started my computer career with a company that built mainframe computers.  You know, the ones that take up a whole room, used up all the electricity, made the room very hot, and had the computing power of a modern day laptop.  Yes, a lot has changed since then but the one thing that remains constant?  They still break and have problems.

Nowadays, people are very computer savvy.  They can make greeting cards, play games, watch videos, make slide shows, talk to people on the opposite side of the world, and so much more!  Why even my parents use the computer, albeit they call me sometimes and say "Russ, the computer is making a funny noise." or "Russ, the printer needs new ink".  Had it been a typewriter ribbon, no problem, my mom could change that in the blink of an eye.  I don't mind helping them, because they panic when there's a power outage and the vcr keeps flashing because it needs the time set.  I got to hand it to them though, they've came a long way.

I created this site to help people and reach out to those who are in the same predicament that I was once in or that I can help with.  Although it won't necessarily be to repair computer hardware or software issues, the point is to share experiences and learn as we go.

On a Personal Note:

I'm married and have to sons.  My 10 year old had a traumatic birth and as a result has cerebral palsy.  Which means he has difficulty controlling his muscles. Although he is unable to walk or speak, he uses various pieces of adaptive equipment to get around and speak.  Since the day he was born, he's always been an up-beat happy fellow and a great big smile that everyone adores.

For mobility, he uses a powered wheelchair to get around in lieu of using his legs.  For talking, he uses a device (computer) to key in what he wants to say and hold a conversation with you.  He also uses his variation of sign-language to let you know when he wants milk, change the channel, when things are too loud or soft and a whole array of signs to speak.

I'll be putting together a page on cerebral palsy because the numbers of cases are increasing every year and we need a way to communicate and reach out for help.

He is very smart. Currently in the 4th grade, he has to compute math in his head because he is unable to use his fingers to count and spell without mouthing and moving his lips to match the sounds.  INCREDIBLE!  I say!

My 7 month old son was born without any physical handicaps, but suffers from a different ailment.  It's called hemoglobin-h disease and has to do with hereditary genes that passed from mom and dad and resulted in this condition.

Hemoglobin-h disease has to do with oxygen that gets carried through the blood stream.  In a perfect world, everyone has 4 of these alpha genes that are working.  If you have 3 working genes, it usually goes un-noticed and it's difficult to find out.  With 2 working genes, they call it a sickle cell disease and more than likely will not cause a problem throughout the person's life.  If there's only 1 working gene, that's called hemoglobin-h disease.  As a result, his blood is closely monitored by a hematologist (blood doctor) to see if a blood transfusion is needed.

It's been a scary ride so far and we don't know what's going to happen from day-to-day.  But we're hopeful in that he too is a happy fellow (except when he has gas) and has been hitting all the milestones a baby is supposed to hit.

Oh, he also suffers from bad case of eczema.  Anyone who knows a sure-fire way to hydrate the skin, please let me know. It is worse around his mouth and we're having trouble feeding him solid baby food because it irritates his skin more.

Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy your life to it's fullest.  Do not take things for granted, imagine if you lost the ability to walk or talk... how much is that really worth to you now?

Warmest regards,

Russ
